The interview i will remember

"Well, for me everything looks ok. Except... what you are asking for (salary) is too high for your experience..."

That was the bottom line statement from my interview back in 2012. It was an interview for the post of Engineering Manager at a pharma contract manufacturing company in Malaysia. At that time, i was working as a consultant in Singapore.

SQA sent me an ad for this opening and as i was looking for an opportunity to come back to this country. So i applied for the post and waited. After around 2 weeks, nothing ever came back. So, i decided to make a call to the company and inquire about my application. After a few attempts, i managed to talk to the right person, the GM of the company. I managed to get an interview with him and i took a day leave for the interview.

It was Monday.

The environment of the company was not a comparison to RSTO and IBL.

In the factory compound, cars must be parked in reverse (EHS).

They have little, round-bottle-shaped cooling tower.

The were using split unit A/Cs for their lobby and mini offices.

The receptionist was nice. She even helped me earlier with the direction to the company.

I filled the typical, standard Malaysia company application form. It took me almost an hour.

The HR executive did not even bother to walk down the stairs to greet me. Rather, she just called me from the level above.

The notice board in the room where i was waiting for the interviewed has the writings which dated almost one year old.

The GM looked nice on white shirt, no tie.

During the interview, he said in IBL a staff could apply to switch department.

Looking at my application form, he asked me if i maintain good contact with my previous company. He said he know my old boss in IBL.

The department where i was interviewing for has 1 executive and 2 technicians.

Notable questions were:
How do you prepare for maintenance of their machines?
Do you know about Cleanroom?
What version of AutoCAD are you using?
What do you use Trackwise for?

I went down to half my salary at that time in MYR just to get the job (and stay at home with my wife).

***

After that i happened to know that my old boss in IBL was hired for the job. And he was interviewed weeks earlier than me. And at the moment, my old boss has left the company for the same job at another similar company.
